Eagle Scouts:

— Garrett G. Malburg, member of Troop 99 and the son of Clint and Stephanie Malburg, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on May 19. For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Malburg, 16, coordinated a work crew that cleared brush, restored trails and made directional signs at Mount Charleston. Under his direction, scouts and adult volunteers completed the project that took more than 60 man-hours. Malburg is a junior at College of Southern Nevada High School.

— Richard Allen Golgart, Jr. of Henderson, 16, received his Eagle Scout badge in a Court of Honor presentation at the Donald Reynolds Scouting Resource Center on June 25. He is the son of Rose Fuscaldo and Richard Golgart, Sr. and a junior at Foothill High School.

Forgotten Song awards: On May 21, nonprofit Forgotten Song Foundation’s second annual VIVA Awards (Vegas Icon Visionary Awards) honored two arts activists; Ken Hanlon, director of the Arnold Shaw Popular Music Research Center at UNLV as well as professor of music, and composer Keith Thompson.

Veteran recognized: Robert “Bob” Hale, a veteran of the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1966, a 23-year pilot for the Air Force, and a member of the 18th Air Corps for the U.S. Navy, was honored June 2 as Nevada Veteran of the Month by Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Teacher awarded: In May, Variety School teacher Douglas Trinkle was announced as a winner of the 2016 Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award from the National Association of Special Education Teachers. The award is bestowed upon special education teachers across the United States who demonstrate exceptional achievement and excellence in the field of special education. Visit naset.org.

Scholarship winner: Marcelle Cruzado, a graduate of Southwest Career & Technical Academy and a recipient of the Bank of Nevada Forward Together Scholarship, is set to pursue a degree in business in the fall at UNLV.

Students accepted to play basketball: Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas announced in May that two high school seniors have been accepted to top-rated institutions to play basketball. This fall, Brennan Rosales will play for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Division 3 team, and Kaleb Robinson will play for Deerfield Academy.

Graduations:

— In May, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia announced the graduation of Desirae Lair and Wei Lin, both of Las Vegas.

— Alicia Ana Resurreccion of Las Vegas was among those earning a doctor of physical therapy degree or a master’s degree at The University of Scranton’s graduate commencement May 28 in Pennsylvania.
