Summer camp options cover all interests in Las Vegas Valley

YMCA

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, plans day camps for children ages 5 to 15 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, June 6 through Aug. 26. Children are scheduled to participate in weekly themes, ranging from “Star Wars” and super heroes to musical madness. Pool time is offered, too. Camp fees range from $152 to $235 per week. Two- and three-day preschool camps for children 3 to 5 are offered from 9 a.m. to noon. The YMCA also offers a one-week sleep-away traditional summer camp in San Diego. The beachside camp for children 8 to 14 is scheduled Aug. 15-19. Planned activities include surfing, body boarding, kayaking, archery, crafts and more. The cost is $599. The Centennial Hills YMCA, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, plans its summer camps for children June 6 through Aug. 26 at 6601 N. Buffalo Drive. Camps include preschool summer camp for ages 3 to 4, traditional day camps for ages 5 to 15, off-site and on-site specialty camps for ages 6 to 12 and field trips. Registration is limited. Boys & Girls Clubs

The Southern Highlands Boys & Girls Club, 10900 Southern Highlands Parkway, offers summer camps, track break camps and before- and after-school activities for children from kindergarten age to 18 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The camp offers field trips, park visits, and at the clubhouse, campers can play video games on a flat-screen television or basketball in the gym. Next door, there’s a splash pad playground, and less than a block away is a park where the campers have water-filled field days. Baseball and softball enthusiasts ages 6 to 12 are set to participate in simulated home run derby games and arts and crafts, and can play Wiffle ball and dodgeball. BounceU, 1000 Stephanie Place, known for its indoor, inflatable bouncing structures, is offering summer camps from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 6 through Aug. 26. The camp costs $150 a week or $35 daily. Siblings receive 10 percent off. Early and late drop-off is available for $8 an hour. Performing Arts

Summer youth theater is set to return to the Las Vegas Little Theatre, 3920 Schiff Drive, with three weeks of classes June 13 through July 1. A comedy workshop is scheduled June 13-17. Drama is June 20-24, and a musical theater session is scheduled June 27 through July 1. Children ages 6 to 12 can write, direct and act in shows, and actors ages 13 to 18 can apply as interns to help with activities. The fee to participate is $175 a week with a $50 discount for siblings. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and until 4 p.m. Fridays. In addition to its full-day Camp Rocks!, Brass Quintet and String Orchestra camps, it has added four half-day theater camps. Each camp is five days. The Rainbow Company Youth Theatre is set to offer summer classes May 11-25 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. Costs range from $42 to $60. Camp Broadway, a week-long camp at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave., is broken up by age with one session each planned this summer. It is set to include musical theater programming led by trained Broadway professionals guiding students through the process of learning scenes, songs and more from Broadway productions. Vegas PBS is set to host free summertime family engagement workshops with the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, Family to Family Connection and Boulder City Library District. These sessions incorporate story time, PBS KIDS educational television clips and hands-on activities while covering literacy, math, science and more. The Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., plans day camps from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays June 6 through Aug. 26. The camps are designed for children ages 6 to 12 and are set to feature new learning- and nature-based adventure themes every week. Creepy Crawlers, Movie Magic, Operation Alien and Prehistoric Predators are among the planned themes. Campers are also set to swim Fridays at the YMCA. The cost is $190 per week for members or $215 a week for nonmembers for those who register through April 30. After that, the price is set to increase by $10. Special Agents of Summer, a week-long camp at the Mob Museum, 300 E. Stewart Ave., is broken up by age with several sessions planned for this summer. It is limited to 15 campers per session. Ages 11 to 13 are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 6-10 and July 11-15. Middle-school agents are set to go undercover to tackle high-finance fraud, money laundering, counterfeiting and greed. Participants are set to lead a team through the underworld as they experience hands-on simulations and interpret clues. Ages 14 to 17 are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 20-24 and July 25-29. Older teens are set to learn about potential careers in the criminal justice system through hands-on activities and a team-oriented investigation of a hypothetical crime. City of Las Vegas

The city of Las Vegas plans summer day camps from June 7 through Aug. 14 at several sites, including the Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave., 702-229-2488; and the Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., 702-229-6359. Camps are for children ages 6 to 15. Stupak camp fees are $75 a week, and Mirabelli fees are $150 to $200 a week. Both centers also offer summer tot camps for preschoolers ages 4 to 6. The Cimarron Rose Community Center summer camp, presented by the city of Las Vegas, is planned from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 6 through Aug. 26, with no camp July 4, for children ages 5 to 15 at the center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road. The camp is set to feature field trips, sports, games, arts and crafts, movies, educational activities and healthy snacks. Camps are divided by age: 4 to 5 (who have not completed kindergarten), 5 to 11 and 12 to 15. Youths 15 or older are eligible to participate in a counselor-in-training program. City of Las Vegas Summer Day Camps for ages 4 to 15 are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday through Friday June 6 through Aug. 19 at three east valley community centers. The exception is East Las Vegas Community Center, which is scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no camp on July 4. The camps are divided by age into Tot Camp for ages 4 and 5 who have not completed kindergarten, Kids Camp for ages 5 to 11, and Teen Camp for ages 12 to 15. Green Valley Parkway; the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway; and the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive. Activities include arts and crafts, drama, music, swimming, games, field trips and special events. Free breakfast and lunch are offered at all locations except the Henderson Multigenerational Center. Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center

Safekey Summer Day Camp 2016 is for children 6 to 12. (May be age 5 if they have completed kindergarten). Program hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 6 through Aug. 12. The cost is $18 per day or $85 per week per child (discounts may be available). There is no camp on July 4. The camp is offered at two locations: Diskin Elementary School, 4220 S. Clark County Parks & Recreation plans two summer camps. Each weeklong camp begins on a Sunday afternoon and ends on a Friday night. Omni Discovery Camp, planned June 19-24, is for children 8 to 12; and On the Edge Adventure Camp, planned June 26 through July 1, is for youths 13 to 15. Activities planned include hiking, cabin skits, campfires and specialty classes and activities. The cost is $400, which includes all meals, snacks, activities, supplies and a T-shirt. 4-H Summer Camp

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math — or STEAM — day camps for summer. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m at the Cooperative Extension’s Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road. The first day camp, open to children ages 7 to 11, is scheduled June 13 and 14. The second day camp, open to ages 10 to 14, is scheduled June 27 and 28. Activities are slated to include plant and animal sciences, health and nutrition, computer science, aerospace, arts and more. The camps cost $60 per person per session for current 4-H members and $70 for nonmembers. Registration includes snacks and activities; however, youngsters must bring lunch. Schools/Learning

Southern Highlands Preparatory School, 11500 Southern Highlands Parkway, plans summer camp programs for children ages 5 to 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Half-day camps are also offered from 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 3 p.m. Extended care is set to be available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Camp fees are $210 per week for five full days and an additional $50 for those who need extended care. Merryhill Summer Camp includes five days of activities from 9 a.m. to 3 pm. at its facility, 5055 S. Durango Drive. Parents can choose to add extended hours and specialty camps. The camps offer a range of indoor activities conducted in an air-conditioned facility with an on-site pool. There are 10 weeks of camps beginning June 6 through the week of Aug. 8. The camp offers Ports of Call with week one exploring Egypt; week two focused on Italy; week three looking at Australia; week four, Africa; week five, a Day at Sea; week six , Norway; week seven, Scotland; week eight, Greece; week nine, Mexico; and week 10, America. Open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade, the free Summer Fun program is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 6 through Aug. 12. Summer fun is offered at: Taylor Elementary School, 144 Westminster Way; McCaw Elementary School, 330 Tin St.; and Sewell Elementary School, 700 E. Lake Mead Parkway. It is a drop-in program for youths held in their neighborhoods. Activities include arts and crafts, games, sports and special events. Free breakfast and lunch are also part of the program. Mathease is offering programming to help students with a variety of math concepts, such as pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus. Mathease, 1720 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, is offering a Common Core Camp for students in first through fifth grade and a Basic Skills Catch-up program for those in grades five through 12. Youths will learn fundamentals of traditional sports such as soccer and basketball as well as participate in Red Rover, Parachute Golf, the Hula-Hoop Pass and more. Afternoon swim sessions are planned. On Fridays, campers will have a special end-of-the-week-themed activity and party. Kinder Kids Storyland is offered for 4- to 6-year-olds at Vistas Community Center as well. In this camp, participants will use their creativity and imagination to create a character out of themselves and jump into scenes from their favorite stories through creative movements, speech, acting and craft making. Each weekly session runs from 9 a.m. to noon and will feature different books and activities.

Camp Foxtail

The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada plan Camp Foxtail in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest for registered Girl Scouts ages 8 to 17. Camp Sam USA

The summer camp for adults with special needs is planned from Aug. 15-20 at Camp Lee Canyon on Mount Charleston. Activities are set to include a Roos-N-More petting zoo, archery, a high ropes challenge course, movies, arts and crafts, hikes and Zumba. Tahoe Camp For Kids

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Southern Area’s 4-H resident camp is set to be held at the Nevada State 4-H Camp from July 24-29 at Lake Tahoe. Registration is open to campers between ages 9 to 15 until the camp is full. This year’s camp utilizes the 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math (S.T.E.A.M.) program. During the six days, campers will participate in activities centering on nature, healthy lifestyles, robotics, Global Positioning Systems, rocketry, dramatic arts, leadership, creative arts and more.

Champions Extended Learning Summer Camps

The camps build a love for science, technology and engineering in young children, while allowing them room to play and enjoy time with peers. Art, dramatic play, math and science are included, along with problem-solving, language and motor skills to help children continue to learn and develop essential life skills whether school is in session or not. Champions students can join a week of camps such as Spy School, Junior Inventors Camp, and A Closer Look at Birds and Trees.

The camp is set to be offered at four summer locations: Somerset North Las Vegas, 385 W. Centennial Parkway; Somerset Sky Pointe, 7038 Sky Pointe Drive; Somerset Lone Mountain, 4491 N. Rainbow Blvd.; Imagine at Mountain View, 6610 Grand Montecito Parkway; and CASLV Windmill Campus, 2150 Windmill Parkway; camps are from 6 or 6:30 a.m. (depending on the location) to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 6 through Aug. 19.

The weekly rate is $150 for one to five days.
