17-year-old arrested in connection with father’s death

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the death of his father Wednesday night, Las Vegas police said Thursday.

Unless the boy is tried as an adult, Metro cannot legally release his identity. He was booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center to face one count of murder with a deadly weapon.

Officers were sent at 5:47 p.m. Wednesday to a home at 1133 Plantation Court, near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Tenaya Way, where officers found the boy's father in the garage with apparent stab wounds, police said.

Officers also discovered the boy, who was initially unresponsive but was later determined to be uninjured, police said Thursday.

A woman had asked police to visit the home to check on her ex-husband and son because she hadn't heard from either of them, homicide Detective Sgt. Matthew Sanford said at the scene Wednesday night. Police said the mother was worried that her son had been having mental health issues recently.

The man's identity will be released by the Clark County coroner's office after his next of kin has been notified.

This is the 112th homicide investigated by Metro this year. Anyone with information about this incident can contact Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or homicide@lvmpd.com.
