Coroner identifies man who died at Lake Mead

The Clark County coroner’s office has identified the man who died after falling off a boat in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area late Wednesday.

Schayne Robert Baker, 36, of Las Vegas, was found Thursday afternoon in about 15 feet of water by Las Vegas police divers, U.S. National Park Service spokeswoman Christie Vanover said.

The Park Service said it received a call shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday reporting that a man had fallen from the front of a boat near Callville Bay Marina and disappeared underwater. The marina is about 45 miles east of Las Vegas.

Park rangers responded Wednesday night, and the search was ongoing with assistance from Las Vegas police and a dive team, the Park Service said.

Witnesses told first-responders that the man was not wearing a life jacket, according to the Park Service.

The cause of his fall was still being investigated.
