Las Vegas man arrested in fatal road rage shooting

Las Vegas police on Friday identified the man they say fatally shot another man during a fit of road rage in the southwest valley the night before.

William Jacobsen, 30, of Las Vegas, was booked in the Clark County Detention Center and is facing charges of murder, possession of a controlled substance and escape by a felony prisoner.

Officers were called to Flamingo Road at Torrey Pines Drive about 9:45 p.m. Thursday and found Marlon Baylor, 49, of Las Vegas, suffering from a gunshot wound and lying in the street, police said. He died at University Medical Center a short while later.

Baylor and his wife had gotten into a fight with Jacobsen, police said, but officers did not specify what started it other than to classify it a “traffic altercation.”

When the vehicles came to a stop at the intersection to Flamingo and Torrey Pines, police said, Baylor’s wife got out of their car to confront the other driver.

Baylor then exited the vehicle, police said, and Jacobsen shot him.

Police did not specify what led to the fight, but officers said Baylor and his wife got in a confrontation with Jacobsen, and he shot Baylor.

Jacobsen fled the scene, but later called 911 from his home, according to a police report. He was arrested and booked at Clark County Detention Center.

Police said he tried to escape from CCDC but was quickly apprehended..

A woman who answered the phone at an address listed for Baylor declined comment on the shooting.

This is the 112th homicide investigation of 2014 in Metro’s jurisdiction.
