Crews had completed about 50 percent of their “confine and contain strategy” for the Gothic Fire in Nye County, which had burned more than 36,000 acres, the BLM said in a news release late Monday.
The fire on the Nevada Test and Training Range began on July 4 after a lightning strike, according to the Bureau of Land Management, Southern Nevada District.
BLM says this are is not accessible to the public, and there is no threat to any residences or structure.
“The fire will continue to burn within its interior,” the release stated. “The fire is not expected to experience any more growth but is still under constant supervision.”
The United States Air Force is working with the BLM. The agency also said Monday’s update would be its last on the Gothic Fire unless a significant event occurs.
A previous version of this story misstated the level of containment of the fire. The amount of containment has not been disclosed, though firefighting efforts are 50 percent complete.
