Metro seeks man who helped wounded officer

Las Vegas police want to thank a good Samaritan who helped a wounded officer after a shooting earlier this month.

There's just one problem — they have no clue who the man is.

On Sept. 6, officers Thomas Clevenger and Sergio Orizabal were inside a marked police vehicle stopped at a red light at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard just after noon when a 17-year-old boy walked up to the intersection and fired three gunshots into the vehicle.

One of the bullets hit Clevenger in the hand. He was later treated and released from the hospital.

Both officers got out of the patrol car and took cover before Orizabal chased down the 17-year-old and made the arrest. Because he is a juvenile, authorities have not released his name.

On surveillance video released by Metro, a Mercedes is seen pulling into the adjacent 7-Eleven parking lot. A man gets out of the driver side, runs into the store and exits a few seconds later carrying towels and running toward the officer.

Police said the man left the scene before they could identify him.

Anyone with any information about the identity of the good Samaritan is asked to contact the LVMPD Force Investigation Team at 702-828-8452.
