Hyperloop tweaks name just before Wednesday’s test in North Las Vegas

Hyperloop Technologies is changing its name ahead of a propulsion test scheduled Wednesday at the company’s Apex test facility.

The company announced Tuesday that it has changed its name to Hyperloop One in advance of a milestone open-air test to which the company has invited journalists from across the country to witness.

“The overwhelming response we’ve had already confirms what we’ve always known, that Hyperloop One is at the forefront of a movement to solve one of the planet’s most pressing problems,” company co-founder and Executive Chairman Shervin Pishevar said in a release issued late Tuesday.

“The brightest minds are coming together at the right time to eliminate the distances and borders that separate economies and cultures,” he said.

Hyperloop is a startup transit concept that involves moving goods and passengers through a tube at speeds of more than 700 mph.
