Best peaches to grow in valley featured on new list

In the next two weeks I will be sending out a list announcing the top fruit picks for Southern Nevada. This will culminate five years of fruit evaluations at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners Orchard. The orchard was planted in North Las Vegas back in 1997 for the purpose of evaluating the best fruit trees to grow in our climate.

LAKE MEAD — Passing weather fronts are keeping anglers on their toes. Some are catching striped bass with top-water lures and others by jigging with cut bait. Striper boils have been seen in the Vegas Bay and Overton arms. Anglers also report fair action for catfish and small stripers.

Health district gets injectable H1N1 vaccine

The Southern Nevada Health District has received its first delivery of injectable 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine, which will be available initially to members of the CDC-recommended priority groups deemed most at-risk for severe illness or complications.
