Democracy Prep drops low-scoring affair to Yerington

Cade Draper rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown to lead Yerington to a 15-6 victory over Democracy Prep at Rancho on Friday.

The Lions forced five turnovers in the contest.

Both offenses were plagued with penalties and turnovers during a slow first half. The Lions (1-1) created the first scoring opportunity of the game after a 43-yard punt by Koby Shramek that pinned the Democracy Prep offense deep in its own territory. Two plays later, the Lion defense pressured Blue Knight quarterback Micah Gayman into an intentional grounding call in the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 halftime lead.

The second half was a repeat of the first half, until quarterback Donovan Coplin connected with Jesus Valdez on a 51-yard touchdown pass to give the Lions a 9-0 lead late in the third quarter.

After forcing the fourth of the five turnovers, a fumble by Gayman, the Lions scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Draper to take a 15-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Democracy Prep offense finally got a spark on 60-yard completion from Gayman to Vanell Meeks. Gayman completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Kelley Jones on the next play to close out the scoring.

Jones caught six passes for 58 yards to lead Democracy Prep (0-1). Valdez led the Lions with 68 receiving yards.
