Football games of the week — Week 5

THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS GAME

Mojave at Sunrise Mountain — The Rattlers will take on the ever-improving Miners.

Mojave will lean on seniors Taiwan Braden, who led in the team in scoring and interceptions a season ago, and running back Khalid Walker.

Walker led the team in rushing last season, accumulating 385 yards on 69 carries.

The Miners, who finished 6-4 and made the playoffs for the first time in school history last season, are hoping to keep the momentum going in coach Chris Sawyers’ third year.

GAMES OF THE WEEK

Arbor View at Faith Lutheran — Welcome to the Class 4A Northwest League, Crusaders.

Faith Lutheran opens up league play against perennial power Arbor View, and will look to prove that it can compete.

Senior running back Christian Marshall will give the Aggies all they want, but is it enough?

Arbor View can run, throw and defend at a high level.

Maybe the Aggies switch it up a little and let standout quarterback Hayden Bollinger air it out. Or maybe they just stick with the traditional double-wing offense.

Basic at Canyon Springs — The host Pioneers are coming off one of their worst seasons in recent memory, but will be looking to bounce back against the Wolves, who finished as last season’s biggest success story after going 10-2.

Senior wideouts Frank Harris (20 catches, 322 yards) and DeShawn Eagles (23 catches, 302 yards) will lead the Wolves’ 2016 offense.

Diamante Burton will be one of Canyon Springs’ top returning athletes. The junior had 281 rushing yards, 60 receiving yards and four total TDs for the Pioneers last season.
