Six hometown players sign with Rebels

First-year UNLV coach Tim Chambers said Wednesday he had received letters of intent from Rancho pitchers Eric Holdren and Zak Qualls and shortstop Brandon Pletsch. Bishop Gorman catcher/outfielder Erik Van Meetren and third baseman/pitcher T.J. White as well as Las Vegas High pitcher Erick Fedde said their letters of intent are on the way to the Rebels, too.

World Extreme Cagefighting star Urijah Faber has built one of the most talented stables of lighter-weight fighters based out of his Ultimate Fitness gym in Sacramento, Calif. Faber will fight Takeya Mizugaki in the headline bout of WEC 52 at the Palms tonight, and two of his teammates also will be in action in featured bouts.

Las Vegas High gets shot to avenge playoff loss to Foothill

Las Vegas High coach Chris Faircloth says last season’s 27-20 season-ending loss to Foothill in the first round of the Sunrise Region still stings, ending Las Vegas’ streak of six consecutive Sunrise titles. The Wildcats get their shot at redemption tonight when they host the Falcons in a Sunrise Region semifinal.
