Raiders sign veteran quarterback to compete for starting job

Updated March 11, 2024 - 2:47 pm

The Raiders agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew on Monday.

Minshew, a former Washington State standout, received a two-year, $25 million deal with $15 million guaranteed. He made 17 appearances, including 13 starts, for the Colts last year.

The 27-year-old will compete with second-year quarterback Aidan O’Connell for the starting job. The Raiders could still add another quarterback as well. They could look to draft a passer or swing a trade for Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

Minshew completed 305 of his 490 passes in Indianapolis last season for 3,305 yards. He threw 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The Raiders also learned they’ll have a new starter at right tackle Monday. Veteran offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor agreed to terms with the Giants on a two-year, $14 million contract. The deal reunites Eluemunor with offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo, who left the Raiders this offseason to take the same position in New York.

Eluemunor was one of three offensive line starters set to be free agents this offseason. The Raiders brought back center Andre James on a three-year contract Sunday. Right guard Greg Van Roten remains unsigned.

The Raiders will undergo a few changes on the defensive side as well.

Defensive tackle Bilal Nichols agreed to a three-year contract with the Cardinals worth $21 million Monday. The deal includes $14.4 million guaranteed.

Nichols, 27, played 24 games for the Raiders the last two seasons. He recorded 92 tackles and three sacks in that span. He left the same day the Raiders agreed to terms with defensive tackle Christian Wilkins on a four-year deal worth up to $110 million.
