Gray Las Vegas: Another November storm soaks valley — PHOTOS
Cloudy and gloomy: Welcome to Seattle, er Las Vegas, in November 2025.
It’s been an unusual month of rain and cooler-than-normal temperatures, and Tuesday was no exception.
The valley saw significant rain during large portions of the day, thanks to the arrival of the second Pacific Ocean storm of the month.
Rain was reported in Summerlin and Centennial Hills before 6 a.m. A steady light rain developed across most of the valley by early afternoon before clearing out. And then another round of showers soaked parts of the valley in the early evening.
As of late Tuesday evening, Harry Reid International Airport had received 0.55 inches of rain. Combined with last weekend’s rain, the airport has seen 1.2 inches of rain this month so far, making it the seventh-wettest November on record, said Ashley Nickerson of the National Weather Service.
The wettest November happened in 1965 (2.22 inches). Last year, the airport recorded only a trace of rain in November. The average rainfall for the month is 0.30 inches, the NWS said.
Through Nov. 18, Reid has recorded 4.53 inches of rain this year (normal is 3.59). An average calendar year is 4.19 inches.
Other areas that saw rain Tuesday included Henderson Executive Airport (0.6) and North Las Vegas airport (0.4).
Nickerson said some neighborhoods in the east valley saw 0.75 inches of rain and Red Rock Canyon got about an inch.
Mountain snow
The nearby Spring Mountains, which was under a winter storm warning, saw rain and snow. Nickerson said one “unofficial” measurement of 7.25 inches was recorded by an observer at the 8,500-foot level at 4 p.m.
The mountains was predicted to receive between five and 10 inches of snow above 7,000 feet, 10 to 16 inches above 8,000 feet and 16 to 24 inches above 9,000 feet.
The Sheep Range north of Las Vegas was predicted to get between five and 10 inches of snow above 7,000 feet and 10 to 16 inches above 8,000 feet.
Rain for Las Vegas Grand Prix?
After Tuesday’s rain, don’t expect the valley to dry out. There’s a 40 percent chance of afternoon showers Wednesday as the storm system moves east.
Nickerson said the third Pacific storm of the month should arrive late Thursday and overnight into Friday. There’s a 50 percent of showers. Some areas in the valley may get quarter of an inch of rain, she said.
“But there’s some uncertainty” with this system, Nickerson explained. It has less moisture and is moving faster than the last two storms, she said. As a result, there’s only a 10 percent chance of rain for Saturday, the day of the Las Vegas Grand Prix on the Strip. The skies should be clear by 8 p.m. when the race starts.
