North Las Vegas church’s roots dig deep into valley

NorthGate Christian Church recently marked its 70th anniversary with a weekend celebration, or “family reunion” as it was dubbed, in which friends reunited, voices lifted, visitors from 15 states attended and former pastors were represented. The decades were filled with name and location changes when leadership swapped and the congregation swelled. It had a humble following in 1941, and now its roughly 250 members await a new building planned for Washburn Road and Donna Street.

Suspect accused of impersonating police officer

A 27-year-old man was booked on Halloween for impersonating a police officer — for the second time. A stolen car investigation that began Sunday led police to arrest Daniel Howard Weiss. He faces multiple charges, including impersonating an officer, possession of methamphetamine and a probation violation.

Westboro Baptist Church protesters come to Sin City

Three people from Westboro Baptist Church protested at UNLV on Tuesday, and later at Clark High School. The group’s de facto spokeswoman said UNLV offers “courses in Rebellion Against God” and “advanced degrees in Proud Sin and Perversion.” She said the high school is “where children are taught that God is a liar.”

Cantor Gaming debuts new sports book at The Venetian

Cantor Gaming on Tuesday debuted its latest race and sports book at The Venetian. The sports book features a 100-foot-long, high-definition 4-millimeter black video screen, one of the world’s largest. The 10,000-square-foot space includes surround sound, marble flooring, and 118 carrels, the most of any Cantor sports book.
