LAKE MEAD — Catch rates continue to improve for Lake Mead anglers. Live shad are catching striped bass. Anglers also are finding success by chumming with mixture of anchovies and corn mixture to bring the stripers in, and then casting rattle traps or shad imitations into the schools. As nights get darker, with the new moon on May 15, anglers will have increased opportunity of catching stripers at night, especially when fishing with an underwater light.

Man killed in central Las Vegas shooting; suspect at large

The man, in his late 40s, was fatally shot after a fistfight with another man, in his early 20s, just before 12:10 p.m. on the 1200 block of Melville Drive, near Valley View and Charleston boulevards, Metropolitan Police Department homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said.

4 more states affected by problems with tainted lettuce

Four more states are reporting illnesses in a food poisoning outbreak linked to romaine lettuce. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its numbers on the outbreak Wednesday, revealing that 149 people in 29 states had gotten sick.
